Artisan Boilermaker – Heavy Steel Fabrication

About the role

The Artisan Boilermaker will join First Quantum's Mechanical team to fabricate, repair, modify and maintain heavy steel structures and mining equipment. You will work on‑site in open‑pit or plant environments, ensuring equipment reliability and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble, install and repair heavy steel structures and components.
• Perform heavy‑duty welding on structural steel, buckets, booms, chassis, frames and wear parts using MMA, MIG, TIG and FCAW processes.
• Conduct gouging, grinding, cutting and fitting operations.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and fabrication sketches.
• Carry out structural rebuilds and reinforcement on excavators, haul trucks, loaders, drills, graders and dozers.
• Apply pre‑heating, post‑heating and heat‑treatment where required.
• Inspect welds for quality and structural integrity.
• Support preventative maintenance to keep the fleet available.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 certificate and a recognized craft certificate.
• Member of EIZA with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in a mining environment is an advantage.
• All qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.

Required skills

• MMA, MIG, TIG and FCAW welding.
• Oxy‑acetylene cutting.
• Grinding and metal fabrication.
• Interpretation of engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Heat‑treatment procedures.
• Use of workshop equipment such as lifting devices.
