Community Education Assistant

About the role

The Community Education Assistant will lead and support environmental education, awareness and social behaviour change activities in priority communities under the EU NaturAfrica CoLiLa Project. Working closely with schools, community groups and project teams, the role aims to build conservation knowledge, stewardship and positive attitudes toward natural resource management among pupils, youth and adults.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver environmental education programmes in schools and communities.
• Support the establishment and mentoring of school conservation clubs and Adult Mini‑Change Groups.
• Develop and adapt education materials and curricula to local contexts and project priorities.
• Facilitate community awareness sessions on conservation, sustainable livelihoods and human‑wildlife coexistence.
• Promote behaviour change and social dialogue linked to conservation outcomes.
• Collaborate with traditional authorities, teachers and community leaders to foster stewardship.
• Document education and outreach activities for monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) reporting.
• Ensure activities comply with EU safeguards, gender inclusion and visibility requirements.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Education, Natural Resource Management, Community Development or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in environmental education, community outreach or conservation awareness.
• Proven experience working with schools, youth groups or community organisations.
• Experience facilitating participatory learning activities in rural or remote communities.
• Familiarity with donor‑funded projects is an advantage.
