Customs Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Customs Compliance Specialist will join the Government Relations team to support Lumwana Mining Company’s customs and international trade compliance function. Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Manager, the role ensures full compliance with all customs, import, export and trade‑related regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review customs declarations and supporting documentation monthly for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Verify tariff classifications, customs values, duty treatments and incentive eligibility for imports and exports.
• Identify, assess and monitor customs compliance risks and support mitigation measures.
• Investigate compliance incidents, determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor performance indicators and suggest process improvements.
• Support customs planning for capital projects, project cargo and equipment imports.
• Administer customs incentives such as APC approvals, duty exemptions, rebates and VAT deferments.
• Maintain records of authorisations, permits, rulings and regulatory correspondence.
• Ensure transactions are processed and reconciled in ASYCUDA World, Smart Invoicing and SAP.
• Prepare regular compliance reports for management and support audit documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on tariff classification, valuation, rules of origin and import/export procedures.
• Develop and improve customs compliance frameworks, policies and internal controls.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of customs regulations, import/export procedures and incentive schemes.
• Experience assessing and mitigating customs compliance risks.
• Ability to investigate incidents, analyse root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Familiarity with preparing compliance reports and supporting audits.
• Excellent documentation and record‑keeping skills.
