Environmental Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Compliance Specialist will advise the environmental management team and middle management on compliance requirements, develop procedures and management plans, and act as a liaison with government authorities to ensure performance meets regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule and conduct internal inspections and audits, and coordinate closure of non‑compliances.
• Audit contractors and suppliers for compliance with environmental standards.
• Investigate environmental incidents and recommend actions to mitigate impacts.
• Maintain a corrective‑action tracking system and ensure timely closure of items.
• Engage with government inspectors, community members, and contractors on environmental matters.
• Deliver awareness activities to communicate the Environmental Management System (EMS) to staff and contractors.
• Update the KML environmental legal register and provide feedback to management.
• Coordinate statutory reporting, permit applications, renewals, and regulatory reporting.
• Monitor implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and report on the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).
• Support emergency preparedness planning and response for environmental incidents.
