Finance Assistant

About the role

Sightsavers Zambia is looking for a Finance Assistant to support the Finance and Support Services Manager in daily financial operations, budgeting, reporting, and information management. The role involves close collaboration with country office teams, regional partners, and global colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse invoices, prepare payment vouchers and cheques for approval.
• Process supplier payments and assist in developing new project documents.
• Administer day‑to‑day funds, ensuring all payments are authorised and supported by appropriate documentation.
• Enter vouchers and journals into the SUN system for validation and posting.
• Maintain orderly filing of accounting and financial records.
• Retire travel advances in line with Sightsavers policies.
• Submit accurate quarterly project reports to the Finance and Support Services Manager.
• Support programme staff with budget reviews and monthly funds requests.
• Track cash‑flows, prepare monthly funds requests, and assist with audit preparations.

Required profile

• Professional accounting qualification or a degree in Finance/Accounting, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in programme finance within an NGO and exposure to auditing.
• Experience working with government organisations.
• Strong financial management, project budgeting and data analysis abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
