Head of Program Operations

About the role

The Head of Program Operations provides strategic and managerial leadership for Save the Children Zambia’s programme implementation. Reporting to the Program Director, the role ensures efficient delivery, donor compliance, and alignment with the 2025‑2027 Country Strategic Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑quality programme delivery across Education, Child Protection, Health & Nutrition, Governance, Social Protection and Climate Resilience.
• Oversee sub‑offices, emergency preparedness, disaster risk reduction and the country‑wide supply chain.
• Manage a US$8‑10 million portfolio, ensuring financial control and donor reporting.
• Supervise four Programme/Project Managers, a Humanitarian & Social Protection Lead and a Supply Chain Manager.
• Coordinate with government, civil society and private‑sector partners to maximise impact.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of programme management experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership overseeing field operations and partnerships.
• Proven track record managing large, multi‑sector, multi‑donor programmes (e.g., USAID, UNICEF, World Bank).
• Strong understanding of compliance, risk management and matrix‑based organisational structures.
