About the role
The Health and Nutrition Specialist provides technical leadership, quality assurance and strategic oversight for integrated health and nutrition interventions. The role ensures that services are evidence‑based, align with national IMAM guidelines, SPHERE standards, DG ECHO requirements and Ministry of Health protocols, and reach vulnerable groups such as children under five, pregnant and lactating women, adolescents, refugees and host communities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical oversight of CMAM/IMAM, MNCH/RMNCH and primary health care programmes, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
- Design, adapt and contextualise protocols, SOPs and integrate nutrition, health, WASH and protection services.
- Supervise implementation at rural health centres, health posts and community platforms, guaranteeing functional OTP, inpatient services and 24/7 delivery where required.
- Mentor health staff, nutrition teams and community health workers through regular field visits and on‑the‑job coaching.
- Develop and deliver competency‑based training on IMAM protocols, clinical case management, nutrition screening, IPC and data‑driven decision making.
- Manage supply‑chain forecasting, procurement planning and stock monitoring for essential medicines, RUTF, therapeutic foods and medical kits.
- Oversee MEAL activities, ensuring accurate data collection via DHIS2 and CMAM/IMAM databases, analysing key indicators and facilitating programme reviews.
- Represent the organisation in health and nutrition cluster meetings, technical working groups and coordinate with MoH, UN agencies and local partners.
Required profile
- Relevant academic background in public health, nutrition, or a related field.
- Proven experience managing health and nutrition programmes, including CMAM/IMAM, MNCH and primary health care.
- Familiarity with national and international standards such as IMAM guidelines, SPHERE and DG ECHO.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and train multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in data collection, analysis and reporting using health information systems.
- Strong coordination skills with ministries, UN agencies and NGOs.
