Mechanical Engineer – Light Mobile Equipment Maintenance

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will join the Maintenance team responsible for Light Mobile Equipment (LME) at Lumwana Mining. Reporting to the Superintendent LME, you will ensure equipment reliability, performance optimisation and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for maintenance and repair of light mobile equipment, including vehicles, trucks, forklifts and support gear.
• Monitor fleet performance, analyse data and recommend improvement initiatives.
• Investigate equipment failures, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all maintenance work follows OEM standards and company procedures.
• Perform quality‑control inspections before equipment returns to operation.
• Prepare technical and performance reports based on maintenance data.
• Oversee contractor and service‑provider performance to meet quality requirements.
• Coach technicians and artisans, promoting health, safety, environmental and company policies.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years experience maintaining mobile equipment; mining sector experience is an advantage.
• Experience with light vehicles, buses, pickups, service trucks, forklifts and support equipment.
• Familiarity with SAP or other CMMS for work‑order tracking.
• Knowledge of fleet maintenance management systems and reliability practices.
• Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
• Unrestricted Class B driver’s licence.
