Mechanical Fitter / Boiler Maker – Solar PV Project

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Boiler Maker to lead the mechanical installation scope for a 25 MWp utility‑scale solar PV plant in Chipalo Village, Luwingu District, Zambia. The role is site‑based and involves building mounting structures, racking, piling alignment and related steelwork to engineering specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead installation of PV mounting structures, racking and piling/foundation alignment.
• Build mechanical sub‑structures to engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances.
• Assemble, align and torque steelwork, brackets, clamps and mounting rails.
• Interpret mechanical/structural drawings and manufacturer manuals.
• Carry out cutting, drilling, fitting and fastening with appropriate tools.
• Coordinate lifting and positioning of heavy equipment (inverter skids, transformers, containerised units) according to lifting plans.
• Support electrical tasks requiring mechanical fitting, working under the electrical SME while retaining responsibility for mechanical quality.
• Own quality assurance for all mechanical scope, verifying alignment, torque values and fastening against specifications.
• Inspect array, steelwork and equipment foundations routinely and guide junior fitters.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, inspections, torque/alignment checks, defects and corrective actions.

Required profile

• TEVETA Trade Test/Craft Certificate (Fitter) or equivalent qualification.
• Proven hands‑on experience in mechanical fitting and boiler making on construction sites.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical/structural drawings and manufacturer manuals.
• Strong knowledge of torque verification, alignment procedures and lifting operations.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental (HSE) procedures, including safe working at height and use of PPE.
