Operations Lead

About the role

Alistair is seeking an Operations Lead to oversee all Zambia‑based fleet and border activities. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will be the single point of contact for logistics execution, ensuring seamless coordination across internal teams and external authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with senior fleet managers, regional ops leads, border teams, driver management, and HSSEQ to guarantee trip execution and turnaround.
• Manage daily interactions with local authorities (ZRA, RTSA, Police) and ensure all permits, licences, and regulatory documents are up to date.
• Provide clients with daily truck progress updates and conduct regular audit spot checks for data accuracy.
• Lead the Zambian operations team, overseeing driver management, fleet maintenance, clearing, compliance, finance and recruitment.
• Track delays, analyse trip data, identify inefficiencies and produce weekly/monthly operational reports.
• Take first‑line responsibility for incident response (theft, breakdowns, accidents) and escalate major issues as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent vocational experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in regional or cross‑border logistics operations.
• Strong knowledge of customs procedures, border agency coordination and trip management.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary operational teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Transport Management Systems or similar operational platforms.
