Operations Lead

About the role

The Operations Lead will be the single point of contact for all Zambia‑based fleet and border operations, ensuring seamless trip execution, compliance, and client satisfaction across Alistair’s logistics network.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with senior fleet managers, regional ops leads, border teams, driver management and HSSEQ to guarantee on‑time trip turnaround.
• Manage daily engagement with local authorities (ZRA, RTSA, Police) and ensure all permits, licences and regulatory documentation are up‑to‑date.
• Provide daily truck progress updates to clients and conduct regular audit spot checks for data accuracy.
• Handle operational‑level client complaints and feedback.
• Lead the Zambian operations team, overseeing driver management, fleet, workshop, clearing, compliance and finance functions.
• Monitor staff performance, support recruitment and onboarding, and track delays to identify inefficiencies.
• Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports and take first‑line responsibility for incident response (theft, breakdowns, accidents).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent vocational experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in regional or cross‑border logistics operations.
• Strong familiarity with customs procedures, border agency coordination and trip management.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑disciplinary operational teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Transport Management Systems (TMS) or similar operational software.
