Overhead Power Line Design Engineer

About the role

Zutari is seeking an Overhead Power Line Design Engineer to join its Transmission and Distribution Energy Unit. The role involves designing, specifying, and supporting the implementation of overhead transmission lines ranging from 11 kV to over 400 kV across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed overhead line designs, including pole/monopole and lattice tower configurations.
• Compile technical specifications, bills of materials, and engineering calculations.
• Generate sag‑and‑tension charts, staking tables, and other data extraction reports.
• Produce design reports, BOMs, and documentation for client review.
• Collaborate with local and cross‑border clients to ensure design compliance with standards.

Required profile

• B.Eng, B.Sc or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (SA) or an ERB/EIZ‑accredited degree (Zambia).
• At least 3 years of experience in overhead power line design for transmission or distribution projects.
• Professional registration or in the process of applying.
• Proficiency with PLS‑CADD, Excel, and Word.

Required skills

• PLS‑CADD profiling, pole/monopole design, lattice tower design.
• Basic MicroStation or AutoCAD drafting.
• Excel for calculations and data analysis.
• Report writing and BOM compilation.
• Interpretation of standards and specification development.
