Payment Officer

About the role

The Payment Officer will join the Commercial Operations – Transaction Processing Team, supporting the COO’s function. The role ensures timely and accurate processing of foreign paper payments, as well as inbound and outbound electronic payments, both local and international. It also serves as the first point of contact for correspondent banking SWIFT messages and handles investigations related to Vostro and Nostro accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Process international payments above $2,000 (or equivalent) and manage advance income tax queries.
• Prepare monthly compliance returns for non‑compliant clients and submit reports to Finance.
• Raise and authorise manual and SFI entries across all currencies on Nostro accounts.
• Handle SWIFT messages (MT199, MT202, MT299) and respond to correspondent bank enquiries.
• Investigate returned cross‑border funds, advise branches and relationship managers, and reconstruct returned funds from various channels.
• Monitor and reconcile Vostro and Nostro outstanding transactions, ensuring compliance with sanctions and regulatory requirements.
• Produce team returns, management information, and end‑of‑day reports while adhering to internal risk and control frameworks.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of commercial banking payment processes and correspondent banking.
• Ability to work under tight SLAs and deliver accurate, compliant results.
• Attention to detail with solid analytical and investigative skills.
• Effective communication with internal teams, branches, and external banks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SWIFT messaging (MT199, MT202, MT299).
• Experience handling Nostro and Vostro account reconciliations.
• Familiarity with manual and SFI entry processing.
• Understanding of advance income tax reporting and sanctions compliance.
• Use of internet banking platforms for fund processing.
