Project Engineer - Operations

About the role

Lumwana Mining Company is looking for a dedicated Project Engineer – Operations to support planning, coordination, and execution of improvement initiatives across large‑scale surface mining operations. The role reports to the Coordinator – Projects and focuses on boosting productivity, reducing costs, and delivering sustainable results.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe work practices, timely incident reporting and investigations.
• Collaborate with production teams to integrate improvement initiatives into project execution.
• Optimize processes and systems to lower mining costs and improve project economics.
• Conduct data analysis to identify patterns and opportunities for operational improvement.
• Reconcile design and scheduling assumptions with actual performance and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare accurate reports, business plans and budgets for study work.
• Develop and implement long‑term infrastructure design and execution details.

Required profile

• Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
• Degree in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum four (4) years of mining engineering experience, preferably in open‑pit operations.
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
• Valid driver’s licence (advantageous).

Required skills

• Proficiency with mine designing software.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with engineering analysis software.
