Project Quantity Surveyor

About the role

The Site Quantity Surveyor is responsible for comprehensive financial and contractual administration of construction projects at the site level, maximizing project value and cash flow through precise measurement, subcontractor management, and timely interim payment certificates. Operating as the commercial heart of the site office, the QS monitors the “Actual vs. Allowable” budget using CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart, ensures payment for variations, and maintains an audit trail for internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly valuations and progress claims.
• Control internal costs and report change requests.
• Manage subcontractor commercial relationships, including liabilities and payments.
• Process variation orders and issue early warnings.

Required profile

• B.Sc or B.Tech in Quantity Surveying (mandatory).
• 8–10 years total experience in civil engineering construction, with at least 5 years on‑site for a large contractor.
• Experience on multi‑disciplinary infrastructure projects (roads, water, earthworks), preferably funded by AfDB, World Bank or EIB.
• Professional registration with SACQSP is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Expert proficiency in CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart software.
• Advanced measurement using Standard Methods of Measurement.
• Working knowledge of FIDIC Red Book and GCC 2015 contracts.
• Advanced Excel for complex reconciliation spreadsheets and S‑curve progress tracking.
