About the role
The Safeguarding, Risk & Compliance Officer will strengthen and implement safeguarding and compliance systems for Save the Children’s country programme in Zambia. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the role ensures child protection standards, policy adherence, risk management and quality assurance are embedded across all programme activities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, adapt and implement safeguarding systems, including child safeguarding and PSEA policies, and ensure timely reporting of concerns.
- Build capacity of staff, partners and stakeholders through training, tool development and ongoing technical support.
- Support programme teams to integrate safeguarding and compliance into project design, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
- Conduct regular field monitoring visits for quality assurance and provide technical guidance to focal persons.
- Maintain compliance with internal policies, donor regulations and national laws, and support risk assessments and reviews.
- Manage and update safeguarding and compliance records, including training data, incident reports and action plans.
- Collaborate with HR, Programme Operations, MEAL and Supply Chain to strengthen the control environment and risk management.
- Represent the organisation in working groups and maintain relationships with government authorities, NGOs and partners.
- Support internal investigations related to fraud, whistleblowing or policy violations as required.
Required profile
- Relevant experience in safeguarding, risk management, compliance and child protection within an NGO or humanitarian context.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training and capacity‑building activities.
- Strong analytical skills for risk assessment, monitoring and reporting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
- Ability to work independently and travel for field visits as needed.
