Safety Officer - LEP, Kalumbila

About the role

A Safety Officer is required for the LEP project in Kalumbila, Zambia. The role supports the coordination and implementation of the LMC HSE management system to a standard compatible with international practice, in a timely and cost-effective way. It also involves advising, supporting and coaching contractors and employees on managing health and safety risks.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections across the site
• Administer safety-related documentation and records
• Monitor and report on incident trends, audit reports and corrective actions
• Facilitate and take part in incident investigations, risk assessments and safety forums
• Oversee health and safety training and presentations in the unit of operation
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities and set measurable targets
• Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and ensure compliance with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy
• Ensure the team operates safely and efficiently, with appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence
• Complete all tasks in the Management Operating System (MOS) to the required quality and timelines

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years' construction projects experience and 3 years post-qualification, including at least 2 years in a mining or industrial environment
• Grade 12 school certificate and a Diploma in OHS or equivalent
• Competent in incident and accident investigation
• High-level understanding of Zambian mining industry employment and safety legislation
• Member of a relevant professional body
• Good English communication skills and clean Class B or C manual driver's licence

Required skills

• Working knowledge of safety systems, preferably ISO, AS or NOSA based
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Strong report writing and presentation skills
• Demonstrated leadership ability and team safety awareness
