Senior Global Health Security Advisor – Zambia

About the role

The Senior Global Health Security Advisor will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to strengthen Zambia’s public‑health security infrastructure and emergency‑preparedness capabilities. Embedded within the Zambia National Public Health Institute and relevant government ministries, the advisor will support life‑saving humanitarian assistance aligned with U.S. Executive Order directives.

Key responsibilities

• Guide and coordinate the implementation of the five‑year U.S.–Zambia Memorandum of Understanding on health system strengthening.
• Provide technical support across infectious disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness and response, laboratory systems, and data systems.
• Assist national agencies in detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious disease threats that affect public health in Zambia and U.S. security.
• Facilitate collaboration between U.S. government entities and Zambian ministries to improve outbreak response and data sharing.
• Embed technical expertise within host government programs to ensure sustainable, long‑term capacity building.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in global health security, public‑health systems, or infectious‑disease programs.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government partners and international donors, especially USAID or U.S. Department of State initiatives.
• Proven track record of leading multi‑sectoral health projects and managing technical advisory teams.
• Strong understanding of the Zambian health landscape and the ability to operate within a multicultural environment.
