Senior Global Health Security Advisor (Zambia)

About the role

The Senior Global Health Security Advisor will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to strengthen Zambia’s public health security infrastructure and emergency preparedness. The role supports the Zambia National Public Health Institute and relevant multisectoral government agencies in preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats that affect public health in Zambia and pose a risk to United States security.

Key responsibilities

• Offer strategic guidance to national public health programs on health security and emergency response.
• Embed technical expertise within Zambian government entities to enhance sustainable capacity.
• Coordinate and track implementation of the five‑year Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Zambia.
• Provide technical support across infectious disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness and response, laboratory systems, and health data systems.
• Facilitate alignment with U.S. Presidential Executive Orders and other relevant policy directives.
• Monitor progress, produce reports, and advise on best practices for health security.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in global health security, infectious disease surveillance, and epidemic response.
• Proven track record working with government agencies, international donors, and multilateral health programs.
• Strong understanding of U.S. State Department/USAID health initiatives and related policy frameworks.
• Ability to operate effectively in Zambia and collaborate with local stakeholders.
