Southern Africa Technical/Field Service Engineer (PV-Utility & BESS)

About the role

The Technical/Field Service Engineer will deliver on‑site and remote commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) equipment, Power Conversion Systems (PCS) and photovoltaic (PV) inverters across Southern Africa. The role supports customers throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring timely and effective technical service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site and remote commissioning of BESS, PCS and PV inverter systems.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting and testing of solar inverters at customer sites.
• Lead or assist with assigned project support activities.
• Coordinate with R&D engineering in China when required for troubleshooting.
• Prepare and deliver service technical reports to customers and supervisors.
• Monitor and maintain performance of electrical equipment and machinery.
• Update customers on open service case status and take ownership of issue resolution.
• Order and restock materials as needed.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry developments.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in the PV or BESS renewable energy sector.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Relevant certifications such as OSHA, NSPA70A, Electrical Safety; first aid, firefighting and ORHVS are advantageous.
• Registration with ECSA or similar engineering institutions is a plus.
• Willingness to travel locally and to other African countries.

Required skills

• Commissioning and troubleshooting of commercial and utility‑scale BESS and PV inverter systems.
• Use of test equipment and hand tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and OSHA procedures.
