Team Leader: Improving Access Activity

About the role

FikaFika is seeking an experienced Team Leader to head the Improving Access Activity, a key component of a donor‑funded transport infrastructure programme in Zambia. The role will be based in Zambia and will involve leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver rural road improvements, strengthen government capacity, and integrate digital tools for needs assessment and planning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall strategic, technical and operational leadership for the Improving Access Activity, ensuring high‑quality, results‑oriented delivery.
• Develop and continuously refine the activity’s technical approach, work plans and implementation strategies in line with client priorities.
• Apply adaptive management to monitor results, identify course corrections and scale successful approaches.
• Represent FikaFika at high‑level technical forums, government meetings and coordination events.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with client field representatives and manage relationships with national and sub‑national government stakeholders.
• Oversee integration of digital tools for needs assessment, infrastructure prioritisation and standards development.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale transport or infrastructure programmes in low‑resource settings.
• Strong background in rural road asset management, access planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to work in matrixed environments and manage multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical and adaptive‑management skills.
