Vehicle Maintenance Artisan (HER)

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a skilled Artisan to safely execute vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance in a mining environment. The role focuses on keeping all fleet assets operational, compliant and well‑maintained while supporting a culture of independent thinking and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, test and perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, including engine tune‑ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing and filter replacement.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and body damage based on operator feedback and inspections.
• Conduct test drives to verify serviceability and adjust controls and systems as needed.
• Ensure compliance with state vehicle standards by testing engine, safety and combustion controls.
• Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning, washing and painting.
• Record all service and repair activities in vehicle logs.
• Operate and troubleshoot shop equipment, maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance on shop tools.
• Manage inventory, place orders and verify receipt of parts and consumables.
• Control costs by utilizing warranties and evaluating service and parts options.
• Provide training and development for direct reports, especially Zambian employees.

Required profile

• Grade Twelve (Grade 12) education.
• Craft Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair (HER) from a recognised institution.
• ZAQA certification.
• Class C driver’s licence.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in a similar role within a mining environment.
• Hands‑on experience with ancillary equipment such as dozers and graders.
