WASH Officer

About the role

Action Against Hunger is seeking a WASH Officer to lead water, sanitation, hygiene and infection‑prevention activities in health facilities and communities. The role supports the implementation of safe water supply, gender‑inclusive sanitation, waste management and hygiene promotion across programme sites.

Key responsibilities

• Rehabilitate and upgrade water supply systems in health facilities, ensuring continuous running water in OPD, maternity, pediatric, laboratory and immunisation areas.
• Support solar‑powered water solutions, expand pipe networks and install water storage reservoirs.
• Construct gender‑segregated, disability‑inclusive latrines and improve sanitation infrastructure in health centres.
• Maintain functional hand‑washing stations, provide soap and alcohol‑based hand rubs, and strengthen IPC compliance.
• Establish and oversee healthcare waste management systems, including segregation, storage, transport, incinerators, sharps pits and colour‑coded bins.
• Conduct water quality testing, treatment, and develop SOPs for waste handling.
• Lead hygiene promotion through KAP surveys, IEC material development and community training.
• Provide capacity‑building, mentorship and supervision to health staff and community volunteers.
• Coordinate with ministries of health, partners and community structures to ensure integrated WASH delivery.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in WASH, public health or humanitarian programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi‑partner environments and with local authorities.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Commitment to gender equality and inclusion.
