Greater Kaza Conservation Director

About the role

The Greater Kaza Conservation Director will lead the implementation of The Nature Conservancy’s strategic conservation priorities across freshwater and terrestrial systems within the Kavango‑Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA). This senior position coordinates partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders to protect and expand protected and conserved areas, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate and implement TNC KAZA’s strategic conservation agenda, focusing on connectivity, community‑led management, and sustainable resource use.
• Provide technical guidance to partners on protection mechanisms, stewardship, and Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs).
• Negotiate and propose innovative solutions for protected area expansion and improved management with governments, NGOs, landowners, and academic institutions.
• Represent the Conservancy in regional and global forums, building collaborative networks to achieve system‑level impact.
• Oversee monitoring and reporting of conservation outcomes aligned with TNC 2030 goals.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in conservation planning and protected‑area management, preferably within large transboundary landscapes.
• Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and local communities.
• Strong understanding of freshwater and terrestrial ecosystem dynamics.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of protection mechanisms/tools for terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems.
• Experience with coordinated, collaborative conservation initiatives.
