Technical Coach, Engineering Support Skills

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Technical Coach to strengthen engineering support at its Kansanshi Smelter operations. The role focuses on on‑the‑job coaching, training, and technical oversight of artisans and tradesmen, ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards while fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to health, safety, environment, quality, and engineering codes, as well as company policies and legal regulations.
• Provide on‑the‑job coaching and develop formal training modules in partnership with the KMP Training Department.
• Prepare and deliver training materials to address identified skill gaps.
• Champion quality and visible leadership on the shop floor, supporting fault diagnosis and corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps, design interventions, and monitor learner progress through the Proficiency Framework.
• Act as an independent assessor for proficiency programmes across First Quantum sites.
• Identify high‑potential artisans, support their development, and record progress using the company’s learning management tools.
• Collaborate with the training department to define ongoing training needs.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of engineering codes, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
• Proven experience in on‑the‑job coaching, technical training, and skills assessment.
• Ability to lead by example, create a learning environment, and provide visible floor leadership.
• Excellent communication skills for effective listening, questioning, and feedback.
• Experience working in industrial or mining environments is preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of engineering codes and safety standards.
• Familiarity with learning management systems and proficiency assessment frameworks.
