Chief Customer Service Advisor

About the role

The Chief Customer Service Advisor leads the cash and customer service operations of an Absa branch. The role combines cash handling, teller supervision, customer enquiry resolution and sales lead generation to ensure a smooth, secure and compliant branch experience.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense and receive cash, cheques, drafts and other instruments, authorising transactions within set limits.
• Perform random checks on teller transactions, monitor till errors and enforce disciplinary action for negligence.
• Manage the vault and daily cash supplies, order cash from the provider, and reconcile branch cash totals.
• Provide first‑line advice to customers, resolve enquiries using bank systems and escalate only when necessary.
• Identify sales leads from customer statements and refer them to Personal Bankers.
• Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa Operational Risk Framework and internal policies.
• Coach and develop teller staff, conduct daily huddles, and participate in performance reviews.
• Maintain cash‑handling equipment, stationery and security tools, and submit statistical cash data to Branch Operations.

Required skills

• Cash handling and reconciliation using bank transaction processing systems.
• Vault and cash‑supply management, including ordering and repatriation.
• Use of cash‑counting equipment such as note counters and currency verifiers.
• Ability to supervise and coach teller staff in a regulated banking environment.
