About the role
The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team is looking for a Fatal Risk Management Superintendent to lead safety and risk initiatives at a mining operation. This senior role bridges corporate risk standards with daily site activities, ensuring that critical controls are not only documented but actively preventing fatal incidents.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain Barrick’s ten fatal‑risk categories, updating bow‑tie analyses and challenging control relevance.
- Translate bow‑tie logic into practical procedures, assign clear accountabilities, and monitor real‑time control execution.
- Design and run daily Critical Control Verification (CCV) programs, using checklists that test effectiveness, not just presence.
- Conduct three‑level assurance reviews, provide quarterly control effectiveness scorecards, and deliver insights to regional leadership.
- Escalate material corporate‑level risks within 24 hours and contribute to Barrick‑wide fatal‑risk standards.
Required profile
- Proven experience in mining safety or high‑hazard risk management.
- Strong leadership with the ability to identify non‑compliance and drive corrective actions.
- Excellent communication skills to coach control owners and influence site personnel.
- Ability to work independently on a site‑based role while aligning with regional corporate oversight.
