Finance Manager

About the role

The International School of Lusaka seeks an experienced Finance Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership across the school’s finance function. Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with senior leadership and the Board Finance & Revenue Committee, the role is pivotal for financial governance and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Advise senior leadership and the Board on financial strategy, performance, risk and sustainability.
• Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash‑flow planning, scenario analysis and long‑term financial planning.
• Prepare management accounts, financial statements, variance analysis and executive‑level reports.
• Oversee year‑end reporting, external audit processes and implementation of audit recommendations.
• Maintain robust internal controls over income, expenditure, procurement, payroll, banking, assets and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation requirements and statutory obligations.
• Manage tuition billing, receivables, credit control, supplier payments and refunds.
• Supervise treasury, liquidity, banking arrangements, reserves and foreign‑currency exposure.
• Oversee payroll controls, statutory deductions and coordination with Human Resources.
• Maintain a fixed‑asset register and controls over acquisition, depreciation, insurance and disposal.
• Lead, develop and hold the finance team accountable for accuracy and professional service.
• Strengthen financial systems, reporting tools, data integrity and process efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a directly relevant discipline.
• Completed professional accountancy qualification (CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent recognised by ZICA).
• Current membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
• At least ten years of progressive post‑qualification experience in accounting and financial management.
• Minimum five years in a substantive financial leadership role with organisation‑wide responsibility.
• Proven experience advising executive leadership and governing boards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a professional finance team.
