National Expert on Agriculture and Capacity Building

About the role

The FAO Representation in Zambia seeks a National Expert on Agriculture and Capacity Building to support the Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) under the third priority of the Zambia Country Programming Framework – Inclusive Green Growth and Environmental Sustainability. The expert will work for 12 months in Lusaka, contributing to policy development, project design and implementation that promote sustainable agrifood systems.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice on sustainable and climate‑smart agriculture practices.
• Support the development and implementation of projects that enhance environmental sustainability in the agricultural sector.
• Lead capacity‑building workshops and training sessions for government officials, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to research, data analysis and the preparation of policy briefs on agrifood and environmental issues.
• Assist in drafting project proposals, work plans and monitoring reports.
• Coordinate with FAO units, national ministries and development partners to ensure alignment of activities.
• Monitor project progress and report on outcomes against agreed indicators.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in agriculture, environmental science, natural resources or a related field.
• Proven experience in national or international development projects related to agriculture and environmental sustainability.
• Strong understanding of climate‑smart agriculture, sustainable natural resource management and green growth concepts.
• Experience working with government agencies, NGOs and multilateral partners.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
