Project Quantity Surveyor

About the role

The Site Quantity Surveyor acts as the commercial hub of the construction site, ensuring accurate financial and contractual administration throughout the project lifecycle. The role focuses on protecting project cash flow, securing payments for variations, and maintaining a rigorous audit trail of all measurements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit monthly valuation and progress claims.
• Control internal costs and produce regular cost‑control and change‑request reports.
• Manage sub‑contractor commercial relationships, including interim payments and liabilities.
• Identify, evaluate and process variation orders and early warnings.
• Monitor the "Actual vs. Allowable" budget using CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart.
• Maintain detailed measurement records to satisfy internal and external audit requirements.

Required profile

• B.Sc or B.Tech in Quantity Surveying (mandatory).
• Professional registration with SACQSP (highly desirable).
• 8–10 years total experience in civil‑engineering construction, with at least 5 years on‑site for a large contractor.
• Experience on multi‑disciplinary infrastructure projects (roads, water, earthworks), preferably funded by AfDB, World Bank or EIB.

Required skills

• Expert‑level proficiency in CCS (Candy) and Buildsmart.
• Advanced measurement using Standard Methods of Measurement.
• Working knowledge of FIDIC Red Book and GCC 2015 contracts.
• Advanced Excel skills for complex reconciliation spreadsheets and S‑curve progress tracking.
• Understanding of rate composition (labour, plant, material) for variation negotiations.
