Control Room Operator (Security, Safety & HSE)

About the role

Zalawi Haulage Limited, a Zambian road haulage company with over 50 years of experience and a fleet of more than 520 vehicles, is looking for experienced Control Room Operators in Chingola. The role covers live tracking and monitoring of all Zalawi trucks in transit, ensuring compliance with company SOPs and national road regulations, especially during high-risk transit. It is a permanent, full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor fleet movement, driver speed, harsh braking and acceleration, and convoy compliance with rules and mandatory rest breaks.
• Report deviations from approved routes, unauthorized stops in high-risk zones and movements during prohibited hours, and contact drivers and escort teams.
• Maintain real-time GPS surveillance of the fleet across Zambia, DRC and South Africa.
• Coordinate with the operations planning team to allow safe stops during prohibited driving hours.
• Liaise with external security providers for unsafe zones and high-risk convoys, and give drivers traffic and route guidance.
• Manage communication with drivers during civil unrest and recommend safety measures.
• Provide daily reports on night driving, security incidents, compliance breaches and corrective actions, and report repetitive breaches to the HRBP/operations supervisor.

Required profile

• Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, Information Technology or equivalent.
• At least 3 years in a similar position, preferably in a fast-paced trucking, dispatch or logistics control room handling high-value cargo.
• Experience in driver supervision, training or transport operations is an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of fleet operations, logistics or transport industry standards.

Required skills

• High proficiency in GPS tracking platforms and excellent Excel skills.
• Leadership, communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
