Flotation Operator – Nickel Processing

About the role

The Flotation Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the grinding and classifying circuits up to the flotation circuit in a nickel processing plant. The role focuses on daily, hourly and minute‑by‑minute performance to maximise production while minimising costs and ensuring sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the apron feeders, SAG mill, ball mill, hydro‑cyclone clusters, flash flotation unit, surge tank, conveyors and dust scrubbers.
• Carry out thorough pre‑start checks, equipment inspections, adjustments and cleaning.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards, comply with HSE requirements and report incidents promptly.
• Execute start‑up and shutdown procedures safely and efficiently.
• Achieve KPI targets for milling throughput, grinding utilisation, product particle size and routine compliance.
• Control dust effectively throughout the plant.
• Complete routine field check‑sheets and equipment inspections in a timely manner.
• Diagnose plant defects, escalate equipment issues and support maintenance activities.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience operating a wet processing plant, preferably in a grinding circuit (SAG and ball mill).
• Flotation experience and plant commissioning/ramp‑up experience are highly regarded.
• Strong commitment to SHEC performance and equipment ownership.
• Basic understanding of mechanical and instrumentation equipment.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work in a multicultural team environment.
• Willingness to learn, attention to detail, good time‑management and a positive, proactive attitude.
• Physically fit for demanding field work.
• Education: Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus a certificate in metallurgy, chemical engineering, mineral processing or a related field.
