Linesman, PDS

About the role

First Quantum is hiring a Linesman for its Power Distribution Systems (PDS) team in Solwezi. The purpose of the role is to safely execute overhead power line maintenance and installation work in line with prescribed standards. The position follows the company's "First Quantum Way" culture, which encourages independent thinking and challenging convention.

Key responsibilities

• Install new overhead power line electrical systems and replace old, faulty or redundant ones according to company and vendor safety and quality specifications.
• Ensure all overhead power line equipment has the correct hardware interlocks for safe operation.
• Follow planned and preventative maintenance schedules and keep overhead line equipment running with minimal impact on plant production.
• Report incidents immediately to the Supervisor and ensure safety and substation logbooks are checked and signed.
• Maintain stock levels of electrical equipment in the warehouse and report defective or substandard items.
• Keep hand tools safe and in good condition, reporting defects and controlling replacements.
• Identify training needs in the area and comply with transport rules (no equipment operation without an official driving permit).
• Perform any other duties directed by the Direct Electrical Supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 certificate, certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• Electrical or Line Work certificate, also certified by ZAQA.
• Valid driver's licence, minimum LMV manual.
• Minimum two years' experience as a lineman in a mining environment.
• Ability to work standby and overtime, shift work, and exposure to noise and dust.

Required skills

• Knowledge of power line hardware, LV and MV transformers, and power line tools and equipment.
• Overhead line maintenance and pole climbing with lineman gear.
• Good knowledge of power line safety and reading electrical drawings.
• Experience with power distribution systems and switch yards is an advantage.
