Packaging Operator

About the role

The Packaging Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining packaging equipment within a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on achieving optimal effectiveness, ensuring product quality, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
• Interpret and implement the production plan for each shift.
• Operate manual and automatic packaging machines according to standards.
• Monitor production processes, identify negative trends and take corrective action.
• Ensure process quality and productivity while completing required tracking and documentation.
• Manage PIMS & POMS data and apply corrective actions as needed.
• Perform autonomous operations, record waste and product movement, and report defects.
• Assist Process Artisans or Machine Specialists with on‑shift repairs.
• Conduct quality checks as defined in work instructions and log results.
• Participate actively in shift meetings, use VPO problem‑solving tools, and hand over information to the incoming team.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Technical qualification – Mechanical/Electrical certificate or advanced technician level.
• Relevant machine‑specific experience, at least 9 months in a packaging or production setting.

Required skills

• Mechanical/Electrical technical knowledge.
• Experience operating packaging machinery.
• Familiarity with PIMS and POMS systems.
• Proficiency with VPO problem‑solving tools (e.g., 5 WHYs, QFRs).
• Ability to perform quality inspections and record data accurately.
