Auto Electrician – Mining Equipment Maintenance

About the role

The Auto Electrician will join the versatile maintenance team at Lumwana Mining Company, diagnosing electrical faults, performing repairs, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of heavy mobile mining equipment in a demanding mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform electrical diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on haul trucks, loaders, excavators, drills and light vehicles.
• Install, maintain and troubleshoot wiring, sensors, controllers, charging systems and CAN‑bus networks.
• Test, calibrate and repair alternators, starters, batteries, lighting circuits and control modules.
• Conduct routine inspections, identify early signs of component degradation and support rapid breakdown response.
• Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately in the CMMS and ensure compliance with safety standards and OEM requirements.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate and a Craft Certificate in Auto Electrical or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years experience with electrical systems on mining, heavy‑industrial or commercial fleets.
• Valid Zambian driver’s licence (preferred) and membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Advanced electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Experience with CAN‑bus systems, sensors, ECUs and digital diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical schematics and technical manuals.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms such as SAP or Pronto.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
