Senior Environmental Officer – Monitoring

About the role

The Senior Environmental Officer – Monitoring will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Lumwana’s environmental monitoring programme, ensuring compliance with national legislation, Barrick standards and best‑practice guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure organisational compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and permit conditions.
• Develop, implement and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) and related compliance frameworks.
• Oversee the Environmental Data Management System to support monitoring and measurement activities.
• Coordinate potable‑water and environmental‑water monitoring programmes in line with the Environmental Management Plan.
• Maintain water‑analysis databases, perform trend analysis and prepare comprehensive monitoring reports.
• Lead the site‑wide water balance system, ensuring calibration, accuracy and regular updates.
• Monitor, audit and report on environmental performance, identifying risks, non‑conformances and corrective actions.
• Provide accurate data for statutory reporting to regulators and stakeholders.
• Conduct environmental inspections, internal audits and compliance assessments.
• Provide technical guidance and training to employees and contractors on monitoring requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in environmental monitoring and compliance, preferably in the mining sector.
• Strong knowledge of Zambian environmental legislation, permit conditions and international best practices.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain EMS and water‑management plans.
• Excellent analytical skills with a track record of preparing detailed monitoring reports.
• Ability to lead audits, investigations and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
