Senior Research Associate

About the role

The Senior Research Associate will lead and monitor day‑to‑day research operations for the FASA team at WorldFish’s NRDC laboratory and field sites. Working on sustainable fish feed solutions for Sub‑Saharan Africa, the role ensures experiments are carried out safely, accurately and in line with established protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments including feeding trial set‑ups, monitoring fish health and behavior, and measuring water‑quality parameters.
• Prepare, maintain and repair wet‑lab equipment such as aeration systems, water‑circulation devices, and sampling tools.
• Supervise sample collection, processing and storage to guarantee data integrity.
• Manage inventory, ensure a clean and safe workspace, and oversee waste‑management procedures.
• Collaborate with senior scientists, research specialists, assistants and external partners to support project implementation.
• Document experimental procedures, collect data and contribute to reporting and knowledge‑sharing activities.

Required profile

• Relevant degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Environmental Science or related field.
• Experience in laboratory and field research within aquaculture or feed development.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Fish husbandry and experimental feeding techniques.
• Water‑quality monitoring (e.g., temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH).
• Laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Sample collection, processing and data recording.
