Sports Development Coordinator

About the role

The Sports Development Coordinator will plan, organise and oversee a range of sports programmes aimed at increasing participation and nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels. This role works closely with schools, clubs, coaches and governing bodies to create inclusive, safe and high‑impact sporting opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, coordinate and evaluate both grassroots and competitive sports programmes.
• Organise events, clinics and tournaments to promote physical activity and talent identification.
• Support athlete pathways from beginner to elite levels.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools, clubs, coaches, parents and governing bodies.
• Act as liaison between the organisation and external partners.
• Provide resources and support for continuing education in coaching best practices.
• Track programme outcomes, participation data and produce regular progress reports.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, safeguarding policies and inclusivity standards.
• Develop promotional materials and use digital platforms to increase programme visibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in sports development, coaching or community recreation.
• Knowledge of national and regional sports structures and policies.
• Strong organisational and project‑management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel locally.
• All academic qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with sports‑management platforms (preferred).
