SRO-SA Intern – Economic Affairs

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa is seeking a motivated intern to support the Sustainable Regional Operations – South Africa (SRO‑SA) Economic Affairs Section. Working under the guidance of an Economic Affairs Officer, the intern will contribute to technical assistance projects focused on inclusive industrialisation and MSMEs.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain project calendars and timelines.
• Prepare workshop and meeting documents such as concept notes, agendas, and invitation letters.
• Assist in organising and servicing workshops, including note‑taking and drafting inputs for speeches.
• Conduct literature reviews, research and analysis on inclusive industrialisation and MSMEs.
• Support data‑trawling activities and help build and update statistical databases.
• Contribute to country strategy profiles and assist the data‑statistics focal point.
• Help create communication materials, including video scripts and social media content.
• Perform administrative tasks and respond to ad‑hoc requests from senior staff.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate‑level programme (second university degree or equivalent).
• Strong interest in economic affairs, inclusive industrialisation, and MSME development.
• Ability to work under supervision and meet project deadlines.
