Subchest Custodian

About the role

The Subchest Custodian is responsible for the secure management of the bank’s sub‑chest, handling cash inflows and outflows with the Reserve Bank and commercial banks. This role ensures accurate cash availability, supports banking operations, and maintains strict compliance with internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Open and close the Sub‑chest under dual‑control procedures.
• Receive, safeguard, and issue banknotes and coins to/from the Reserve Bank and commercial banks.
• Prepare and submit restocking and evacuation requests to maintain optimal cash denominations.
• Conduct daily vault reconciliations, detect discrepancies and resolve them promptly.
• Record all cash movements, prepare weekly and monthly returns, and maintain an audit trail.
• Liaise with commercial banks to forecast currency requirements.
• Facilitate audits and inspections by the Reserve Bank, ensuring full compliance.
• Maintain accurate transaction documentation and hold one of the two keys to the Sub‑chest.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to zero‑tolerance cash handling errors.
• Ability to work under dual‑control and follow established procedures.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and ability to reconcile cash balances.
• Good communication skills for coordination with banks and auditors.
