Accountant - Taxation

About the role

The Taxation Accountant will join the Commercial Department of Lumwana Mining Company, reporting to the Senior Accountant – Taxation. The role ensures compliance with tax and commercial obligations while providing high‑quality tax input to support the company’s operations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate tax returns and ensure timely tax payments.
• Maintain proper records of all tax‑related documents and files.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
• Perform timely reconciliation of general ledgers and follow up on reconciling items.
• Support the Senior Accountant in audit coordination.
• Coordinate tax agent appointments and manage re‑issuance of tax invoices to minimise reverse VAT exposure.
• Review customs entries, prepare payment schedules and ensure customs payments are made on time, clearing related bank entries to the appropriate ledgers.
• Identify key controls, suggest efficiency improvements and help mitigate risk.
• Stay updated on tax law changes and technical issues.
• Prepare correspondence and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide tax compliance support to Finance and Supply Chain teams, reviewing transactions and maintaining documentation.

Required profile

• Full Grade 12 certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting certification (e.g., ACCA, ZICA, CIMA) is an advantage.
• Member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar taxation/accounting role.
• Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
• Strong computer literacy with ERP and Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
