Flotation Operator, Nickel Processing

About the role

The Flotation Operator is responsible for efficient field operation of grinding and classifying circuits up to the flotation circuit, ensuring maximum production, cost minimisation and operational sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑start checks, inspections, adjustments and cleaning of apron feeders, SAG mill, ball mill, hydro‑cyclone clusters, flash flotation unit, surge tank, conveyors and dust scrubbers.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards, report incidents and unsafe conditions promptly.
• Execute start‑up and shutdown procedures safely, operate equipment according to operating strategies, and meet KPI targets for throughput, grinding utilisation and product particle size.
• Conduct routine field check‑sheets, equipment inspections and diagnose plant defects, escalating issues as needed.
• Support maintenance tasks and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience operating a wet processing plant, especially grinding circuits (SAG, ball mill).
• Flotation experience highly regarded; plant commissioning or ramp‑up experience desirable.
• Full Grade 12 certificate; qualification in metallurgy, chemical engineering, mineral processing or related field.
• Physically fit, able to work in a multi‑cultural environment and fluent in written and spoken English.
