Software Engineer – Control Systems

About the role

The Software Engineer will maintain and enhance control system software, troubleshoot issues, and support continuous optimisation of process control at the Kalumbila site.

Key responsibilities

• Act as first responder to control‑room operational problems and perform troubleshooting of equipment failures or software changes.
• Assist in the installation, retro‑fit and testing of Siemens PLC‑based control systems, including DCS, HMI and SCADA development.
• Develop, configure and update SCADA applications, ensuring hardware and software match field modifications.
• Provide technical guidance to trainees and perform standby duties as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience with industrial automated control systems, complex software suites and instrumentation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or related field; membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
• Ability to register with the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia.

• Siemens PCS7, Siemens TIA, Step 7
• Network protocols: TCP/IP, Profibus DP, Profibus PA, Modbus
• Programming languages: C, C++, Visual Basic
• Control programming: STL, SCL, FBD, CFC, SFC
• SCADA/DCS/PLC/HMI development and configuration
• OSIsoft PI Historian, OPC interfaces
• Understanding of GA drawings, wiring schematics, P&ID diagrams
• Familiarity with ISA best practices and instrumentation control
