Head of Department – Geochemistry (Zambia)

About the role

We are looking for a Head of Department – Geochemistry to lead our laboratory and sample preparation operations in Zambia. The role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on technical leadership to ensure world‑class service quality.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the geochemistry laboratory and sample preparation section.
• Oversee the full analytical workflow from sample receipt through wet chemistry, QA/QC review and final reporting.
• Maintain ISO 17025:2017 compliance and the company’s Quality Management System.
• Control departmental budgets, stock inventories and equipment utilisation to drive financial efficiency.
• Schedule workloads to meet client deadlines and coordinate with internal departments and external clients.
• Train, mentor and develop laboratory staff to achieve peak performance.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in a testing laboratory, preferably a geochemistry set‑up.
• Strong background in classical analytical chemistry techniques, including fire assay.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain analytical quality, accuracy and precision.
• Excellent communication, leadership and customer‑service orientation.
• High integrity and professional accountability.
