About the role
First Quantum is seeking a skilled Artisan Machinist to safely carry out machining work in the machine shop, maintenance workshop and open‑pit field environments. The role involves operating a range of heavy‑duty equipment and ensuring all work meets prescribed standards.
Key responsibilities
- Operate heavy‑duty drilling, lathe, line boring, milling machines, power saws, pedestal grinders and thread‑tapping tools.
- Set up, adjust and run basic machine tools, align fixtures and secure cutting tools and materials.
- Measure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools and equipment to remove grease, rust and contaminants.
- Perform bolt extraction on diggers, drills, haul trucks, graders, dozers and loaders as required.
Required profile
- G12 Certificate and a recognized Zambian craft certificate as a machinist fitter and turner.
- Valid Zambian light vehicle driving licence.
- At least 3 years’ experience in mining maintenance or equivalent industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering detail drawings.
Required skills
- Operation of lathe, line boring, milling and power saw machines.
- Use of hand tools, lifting hoists, chain blocks, forklifts, man‑lifts and overhead cranes.
- Measurement and inspection techniques for detecting defects.
- Troubleshooting and fault‑finding on mining equipment such as haul trucks, drills and loaders.
