Artisan Fitter – Smelter Mechanical Maintenance

About the role

The Artisan Fitter will join the Smelter Mechanical team at Kansanshi Mining Plc, reporting to the Shift Supervisor, Mechanical. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance of hot metal smelting equipment in a challenging hot‑metal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on hot‑metal smelting equipment including ISA, MSEF, WHB and ESP units.
• Maintain hydraulic units, boiler pumps, positive displacement fuel pumps, and hot‑metal tapping and plugging machines.
• Maintain MSEF electrode columns, belt and drag‑chain conveyors, molten‑metal launders, tap blocks and associated cooling‑water piping networks.
• Identify equipment defects, troubleshoot, and implement rectifications and improvements in the smelter plant.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 with a Craft Certificate or equivalent in Mechanical Fitting.
• EIZ certification and certification by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• At least 5 years of experience maintaining smelting plant equipment or similar.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic circuitry of furnace electrode columns and tapping machines, and safety requirements for furnace equipment.
