Operations and Rail Manager

About the role

The Operations and Rail Manager will oversee all aspects of warehousing and logistics, ensuring efficient receipt, storage, value‑adding services, and dispatch of diverse products. The role combines management of rail traffic coordination across the region with day‑to‑day warehouse operations to drive operational excellence and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor the full order cycle, including receiving, warehousing, inventory management and order fulfilment.
• Coordinate train movements across the region with Impala Rail Managers and share traffic information with rail operations managers in Zambia, DRC and South Africa.
• Handle assigned rail projects and conduct daily planning of traffic movement.
• Drive continuous improvement by analysing operational data, KPIs, identifying bottlenecks and implementing efficiency‑enhancing changes.
• Supervise, mentor and develop a high‑performing warehouse team, delivering performance reviews and training.
• Implement and maintain rigorous health, safety and security standards, conducting regular risk assessments.
• Oversee stock control, conduct cycle counts and audits, optimise storage space and plan future capacity.
• Manage operational budgets, control variable costs and allocate staff and equipment resources effectively.
• Lead CHESS safety initiatives, investigations, corrective actions and compliance reporting.
• Allocate resources for CHESS programs, set annual objectives and maintain stakeholder relationships with communities, regulators and emergency services.

Required profile

• Proven experience in logistics, warehousing and rail operations management.
• Strong leadership and team‑development capabilities.
• Excellent analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement.
• Solid understanding of health, safety and security regulations in a terminal environment.
• Ability to manage budgets and allocate resources efficiently.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Warehouse Management Software (WMS).
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis and reporting.
