Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Microfinance Institution

About the role

The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership and executive management for a wholly owned Zambian micro‑finance institution licensed by the Bank of Zambia. The CEO is responsible for driving sustainable growth, profitability, operational excellence, regulatory compliance and long‑term business sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Board‑approved policies, resolutions and strategic decisions while ensuring corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
• Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the institution’s Strategic Plan, identifying growth opportunities and emerging market trends.
• Oversee efficient delivery of financial products and services, monitor branch and departmental performance, and promote operational efficiency and customer service excellence.
• Provide oversight of credit operations, ensure adherence to credit policies, monitor portfolio quality and maintain acceptable Portfolio at Risk (PAR) levels.
• Drive customer acquisition, retention and business growth initiatives, develop strategic partnerships and enhance market presence.
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and monitor liquidity, profitability and cost optimisation.
• Establish and maintain an effective enterprise risk management framework and ensure compliance with Bank of Zambia regulations.
• Foster a high‑performance culture, support talent development, succession planning and employee engagement.
• Serve as the principal representative of the institution, building strong relationships with regulators, shareholders and customers.

Required profile

• Proven ability to provide strategic leadership and executive management.
• Experience in implementing Board‑approved strategies and ensuring corporate governance.
• Strong track record in driving operational efficiency, risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated capability to foster a high‑performance culture and manage stakeholder relationships.
