Forestry Manager

About the role

The Forestry Manager will lead on‑site forestry operations for Carbon Canopy’s carbon projects in Zambia. This full‑time position oversees the planning, implementation and supervision of forest inventories, planting, thinning and harvesting activities, ensuring they meet best‑practice and project standards while supporting community and environmental goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute operational plans for forest management, including inventories, planting, thinning and low‑impact harvesting.
• Supervise field teams and contractors across multiple sites, providing technical guidance and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with local communities, partners and cross‑functional teams to align forestry work with carbon, conservation and livelihood objectives.
• Monitor forest health, manage timber and non‑timber resources, and maintain accurate records, maps and reporting data.
• Contribute to carbon project design, monitoring and verification reporting.

Required profile

• Strong technical expertise in forestry and forest management, including sustainable planning and silviculture.
• Practical experience in timber operations and low‑impact harvesting methods.
• Knowledge of urban or community‑based forestry and experience on nature‑based or carbon projects, preferably in Africa.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or related field.
• Proven ability to lead field teams, manage contractors and multiple work sites.
• Familiarity with GIS, forest inventory tools and basic data analysis.
• Commitment to safety, ethical practices and community‑inclusive approaches; ability to work in rural conditions.
• Strong communication skills in English; additional local language skills are a plus.
