Long-Term Translator Consultant (English ↔ Zambian Languages)

About the role

UNICEF Zambia is seeking qualified individual translators for a 36‑month Long‑Term Agreement. The consultancy is home‑based and will be engaged on an as‑needed basis to provide high‑quality translation, editing, proofreading and localisation services between English and Zambia’s seven official local languages.

Key responsibilities

• Translate communication, advocacy, programme, training, research and knowledge products from English into one or more Zambian languages (Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Tonga, Kaonde, Luvale, Lunda) and vice‑versa.
• Edit and proofread translated materials to ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance and consistency with UNICEF standards.
• Localise content for social media, reports, publications, flyers and other outreach materials.
• Provide translation support on an on‑need basis throughout the contract period.

Required profile

• Fluent in English and at least one of the official Zambian languages listed above.
• Demonstrated experience in professional translation, preferably for development or humanitarian contexts.
• Ability to deliver accurate, culturally appropriate translations within agreed timelines.
• Home‑based work setup with reliable internet connectivity.

Required skills

• Professional translation (English ↔ Zambian languages).
• Editing and proofreading of multilingual content.
• Familiarity with UNICEF communication standards and localisation practices.
